A Recipe for Success Story for Celebrity Fundraiser
A Celebrity Fundraiser Dinner took place on Mandela Day at Durban Country Club and featured a Proudly South African Success Story: HIRSCH’S. The family run business that over the last 34 years has grown from a room the size of a small garage and a mere R 900 in the bank, to a Billion rand company.

This South African success story pays tribute to Nelson Mandela’s legacy of leadership, contribution to society and the environment. Funds raised from the Black-Tie Dinner were donated to the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage at the Exclusive Private Game Reserve, Thula Thula in Empangeni. The orphanage, a sanctuary for baby rhinos left motherless due to Rhino Poaching was started by Francoise Malby Anthony, the wife of the late Lawrence Anthony – AKA “The Elephant Whisperer.”
Darren Maule, the East Coast Radio DJ interviewed Allan and Margaret to discover their “Recipe for Success” The secret? Love! For each other, their business, their family, colleagues and South Africa in general.

Celebrity Chef Joani Mitchell (ex Masterchef) hosted a cooking demonstration in a SMEG reality kitchen on stage – with Miss Earth SA finalist, Roxanne Watson. The pair put together an amazing array of decadent tartlets .

Other VIP guests included Stefan Terblanche, CEO South African Rugby Legends (SARLA) and Sharks CEO, John Smit. There was also good smattering of Dolphin Cricketers, including Cameron Delport and other VIP’s and Dignitaries at the event.
Before the dinner, a Wildlife Fine Art Exhibition and Wine-Tasting took place in the pre-assembly area hosted by the Imbizo Gallery and included works from Klause Tiedge, Vince Reid and Mandela Paintings by Wakaba Mutheki.
Matthew Willman, the official Photographer for Nelson Mandela was a guest speaker at the event and showcased his book – “We called him Madiba”, a 10 year photographic journey of the iconic leader.
