The Parlotones Rock Ballito
Despite threats of rain, the previous day’s cyclone effects and temperatures dipping into the teens, Ballito welcomed the award winning group, The Parlotones, in the latest in the Marriott Ballito Beats open air concerts at Sugar Rush Park.
This Sunday, the 17th of September, Sugar Rush Park in Ballito was the place to be as fans came from far and wide to watch one of South Africa’s most famous rock bands performing LIVE in Ballito for the very first time. While rain and wind threatened to dampen spirits, Ballito locals once again came out in the hundreds in support of family entertainment with a difference. And it paid off, as the skies cleared, the rain and wind held off, and fans were treated to the unforgettable sounds of The Parlotones, right here in Ballito.
North Coast locals took advantage of a day outdoors, mingling with friends and enjoying quality time with family on the open grassy lawns at Sugar Rush Park. A fully supervised kiddies zone provided ample entertainment for the little ones, while fans of all ages got to enjoy picnic-style food and drinks with feet tapping to the great music booming from the stage.
As the third installment of the Marriott Ballito Beats Music Series, fans were treated to two opening acts. Graham Hunt kicked off the show with soft and soulful acoustic tunes before F R E D D Y – L, local Durban boy on the rise, warmed the stage with his folk melodies and deep vocals. Lead singer Freddy Lalendle was recently coached by Kahn Morbee of The Parlotones on the second season of The Voice, South Africa.
The Marriott Ballito Beats Music Series offers the North Coast community an opportunity to see award-winning bands like Mango Groove, Freshlyground and now The Parlotones perform right in their very own backyard – adding a whole new level of family entertainment to the Ballito social scene.
“We’re so proud to have been able to bring The Parlotones to Ballito this Sunday,” says Ballito Beats Series Director Stu Berry. “Once again, they put on a real performance for everyone who braved the cold. They’re crowd pleasers and their vibey set kept fans of all ages entertained. Another great day out at Marriott Ballito Beats Music Series, regardless of the weather!”
The final Marriott Ballito Beats Show for 2017 will take place on Sunday the 29th of October where locals can look forward to South African heavy weight rock legends Arno Carstens and Ard Matthews combining their musical talent for an intimate session on stage.
