Perfecting Social Media Engagement
PERFECTING THE ART OF SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT – Talk at the Durban Entrepreneurs Club
Written By Glenda Thompson.
“The Durban Entrepreneurs Club is a platform for entrepreneurs to network, share ideas and build relationships. Your big opportunity may be right where you are right now!” Grant Gavin, Founder of the Durban Entrepreneurs Club explained when he opened this popular, packed to capacity, monthly networking event at the Durban Country Club recently. The Club, that started off with a handful of members in November 2015, has grown from strength to strength and now has 150 members, and is still growing. Grant and his committee have fielded some high powered speakers over the months, all with a different message on how to help budding and well established entrepreneurs to grow their business.
Social Media guru Barry Tuck, MD at Paton Tupper Digital, was the Guest Speaker at the October networking meeting, and he explained that one of the secrets to doing Social Media well is to understand the people that your brand is engaging with and build love and trust for the brand. “Never assume that your target market thinks like you, or has a life that even remotely resembles your own. The secret to successfully engaging with people on your Social Media platform, is to put yourself into their shoes, and then try and garner insights into their biggest problems and passions. Address these and your message will resonate with your market. Push your own outlook onto the people you want to reach, and you will risk alienating them.” He explained.
Social media tips that he shared: If you’re getting your foot in the door – that’s good; Only post once a day, but make the post well worth the read; Promote your page; Grow your content – and your community; Reach people near your business (easily done with Facebook); Don’t mention your brand – it’s all about content.
The next Durban Entrepreneurs Club meeting will be held on November 17. As it is the final event of the year, it will be for members only. Guest speaker will be Olympic Medalist, Bridgitte Hartley.
