Wakkerstroom Country Inn is centrally located in Wakkerstroom, a small village, 3 hours from Pretoria and Johannesburg in Mpumalanga.
The Inn boasts its own restaurant which is open 7 days a week and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast consists of a continental buffet followed by a farmhouse breakfast. These can be enjoyed al fresco on the patio or second verandah with unique views, or the pub and dining room with a warming fire during winter months. Conference facilities cater for approximately 100 delegates. Wakkerstroom Country Inn also caters for weddings and other events. Secure parking is offered on the premises.
Wakkerstroom offers attractions in and around the village including historical monuments and tours which can be arranged, or create a souvenir at the Glass Art Studio. The Volksrust 9-hole golf course is only 15 minutes away. Pack a picnic basket and follow the 4×4 trail up the Ossewakop Mountain offering wonderful views. Birding is popular and guided tours can be arranged. Other activities include fly fishing at Balele Mountain Lodge, kite flying at Stone Hill Farm, hiking along trails leading to Bushman paintings and horse riding. Visit Kwa-Zingelozi for a lesson in drumming and paintball.
Accommodation comprises of 10 comfortable en-suite bedrooms which include 3 family suites. All rooms have complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities.
Route 1: From Johannesburg take the N3 towards Heidelberg. Take the R23 to Standerton. Continue on the R23 for 80km’s from Standerton to Volksrust. As you approach Volksrust, as soon as the speed limit drops to 60km slow down & take the first left turn, then follow the road for 28km’s (towards Piet Retief – the R543) until you reach Wakkerstroom.
Route 2: Take the Springs Highway (N17 toll road). Take the Leandra turn off. At intersection/T-junction, turn right to Standerton on the R50. From Standerton, continue on the R23 to Volksrust. Follow directions from Volksrust to Wakkerstroom as above.
