Dingo motivates next generation
Pupils at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof were inspired to take action in protecting the endangered rhino species after hearing a talk on conservation by South African wildlife crusader and YouTube sensation, Dingo Dinkelman recently.
To mark World Rhino Day on 22 September, the school handed over a generous donation to the Zululand Rhino Orphanage, the only dedicated rhino orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal that cares for calves of poached mothers.
Dingo has been a long-time supporter of the Rhino Orphanage, assisting them in raising funds for food, veterinary bills and their ongoing care as well as assisting in dehorning the orphan rhinos before their release back into the wild.
“Education is the fundamental building block of our work which is why our motto is ‘Educate. Inspire. Protect.’ Through our school shows, we’re able to initiate a connection and, hopefully, a lifelong love for nature that will create a new generation of wildlife crusaders.
I want to give children the opportunity to fall in love with nature when they are young so that it will stay with them forever.
I have been working with the pupils and staff at St Mary’s DSG for a number of years now and it is a real privilege to see them making a difference to our natural world”.
