Kaalgat Karel in cinemas from Friday
KAALGAT KAREL tells the heart-warming story of Karel Venter (Francois Jacobs), a thirty-year-old guy who loves the thrill of streaking during sports matches.
He falls head-over-heels for the paramedic and single mom, Rita (Christia Visser) who treats him after a streak gone wrong, but she seems to have no interest in his streaking shenanigans.
This tummy-tickling Afrikaans motion picture, featuring English sub-titles, has already impressed overseas critics and movie enthusiasts and won awards at several prestigious international film festivals, including Best Feature Film, Best Romantic Comedy, Best Produced Feature Film Screenplay and Best International Production.
“It has been super-frustrating having to postpone the release of KAALGAT KAREL twice. But the new timing is excellent,” says director Meg Rickards, who co-wrote and produced the feature with husband Paul Egan. “We think a fun fliek is more needed than ever, because the past eighteen months have been full of sadness and loss, and we are excited to share this one with South Africans.”
In addition to a catchy theme song, Altyd Op Vakansie by Jack Parow and Loki Rothman, the movie also boasts a star-studded cast that includes Siv Ngesi, Tracey-Lee Oliver, Rosebelle Clasen, Eden Classens and popular comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout.
KAALGAT KAREL is the perfect way to kick off this heritage weekend. Don’t miss it!
The film is locally distributed by Filmfinity (Pty) Ltd. and was produced in cooperation with kykNET, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council (ECPACC), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and its brand integration partners, Galito’s, Red Alert and the Hathaway Group of Guesthouses.
