Prime fishing at Loskop Dam
Loskop Dam is a forever resorts owned property and situated between Middelburg and Groblersdal, about 190 km from Johannesburg.
It features is a large catchment area and is an exciting fishing venue that’s great for bass fishing. The dam is not currently known as a bass fishing mecca but is becoming more and more popular as anglers explore and uncover it’s hidden potential. The dam is approximately 30km long and supplies water to a vast irrigation scheme in the surrounding areas. Big bass are there, the angler just needs to work a bit harder to find them.
Loskop is a dam that has a reputation to reduce grown men to tears, it can be on fire one day and totally dead the next. The secret appears to actually be no secret at all, namely that the bass are not everywhere, they are there but in certain isolated areas. It is reasonable to expect that since largemouth bass have only in recent years made themselves know in the dam that they will become more widespread as they become more entrenched, being the survivors that they are.
There are excellent facilities for an overnight stay at the dam and good slipways. It’s popular with leisure boaters but its large size makes this not much of a problem.

Witbank Dam
Witbank dam has never really stood out as a prime fishing venue. Since this dam is not a very old dam, one might wonder why it received such a bad reputation so quickly.
The answer is due to the surrounding coal mines which caused the exposure to dug up raw elements such as sulphur-pyrite, which had a rather deadly impact on the water quality and surrounding plant life.
The dam is home to some very decent Florida strain largemouth bass. In fact, the previous South African record of largemouth bass was caught in the dam in 1997 and weighed in at 6.045kg! While the average fish is 1kg, fish reaching 3 – 4kg are also regularly caught.
The dam has excellent launching and security facilities, making this an ideal venue for Bass anglers. The Witbank Dam is also notably the venue for the annual Witbank Bass Classic, usually held in September each year.

Middelburg Dam
Middelburg Dam is located just outside Middelburg Town and is also known as 5 Mile Dam.
It’s a destination that’s popular among bass fishing enthusiasts.
The water is fairly deep and cool and is well served with a pleasant camp site on the Northern bank. Fishing pressure is fairly low.
