Middelburg Actress lands role in Binnelanders
Middelburg Actress Melanie du Toit with growing resume, ‘feels at home’ on the big screen.
A local aspiring actress who landed a ‘short role’ in the Afrikaans Series Binnelanders on Kyknet is hopeful that it’s just the start of much bigger things to come.
Melanie, in her second foray to enter the film world from the stage, was pulled from a casting last month -thanks largely to her agent – and within days found herself on set and in studio, rubbing shoulders with local television celebrities and getting into character as a nurse as her make-up was done.
Binnelanders is a South African Afrikaans-language television soap opera produced by Friedrich and Elsje Stark of Stark Films and set against the backdrop of an up-market private hospital, Binneland Clinic, in Pretoria.
The stories revolve around the lives of a dedicated group of professionals at the clinic who are committed to healing the suffering of their patients.
Her first role as an actress was in 2007 in the movie ‘Roos vir Mari’. Here she starred opposite the well known Albert Maritz
“To be honest, I was totally comfortable and at ease in front of the cameras.” says Melanie. “I act on faith and I found this inner joy and gratitude being on set. It’s where I feel I belong”.
And the fact that another Middelburg Actress was also on set at Stark Studios – Pascal Pienaar who plays the role of ‘Karli’ – the mood really couldn’t get closer to ‘feeling at home for Melanie.
Melanie is a former student of Hoerskool Middelburg. She pursued Drama Studies at the University of Stellenbosch and now enchants growing audiences in this area as Director of her own Drama Club, Karbinna, – that has at least 50 registered students, and the Productions thereof.
Her multitude of talents is utilized in an admiringly efficient manner as Melanie also hosts a variety of spectacular entertainment events such as Puppet Shows and Stage Plays, she’s a story-teller that’s often the center of attraction and she also specializes in Face Art.
Her understanding of the entertainment industry made way for the other ventures at Karbinna, including a costume hire business, which she runs in-between her tight schedule. The list is endless but well worth all the effort required behind the scenes.
Melanie’s role in the Series will feature over three episodes of Binnelanders next month.
When her 15 minutes of fame is over, Melanie looks forward to her next adventure. “My absolute passion is any form of performing arts. And that’s what takes up all my time. And that’s all I want to do. Entertain. Create. Express.”
