ShowMe Witbank interviews Theuns Jordaan
ShowMe Witbank recently had the opportunity to Interview Theuns Jordaan ahead of his Witbank Show scheduled to take place on 29 May 2015.
This is how he responded to a few questions we sent him:
Have you performed in Witbank before? If yes, how was it and what do you think about the Witbank Community?
Yes I have, the Witbank community are great supporters of Afrikaans music and it is always a pleasure to perform for them.
What’s the best part about performing on stage versus a studio?
The personal connection with the audience, seeing them appreciating and enjoying the music.
What is the biggest venue where you have performed?
The rugby stadium Loftus in Pretoria.
What is your favourite venue / city that you have performed at?
I love The Barnyard Theatres as well as venues like Presley’s Night club and Firkin’s that take me back to my roots as a pub artist in the beginning of my career .
What is the scariest thing you have done on stage?
I got shocked by a microphone on a wet stage.
Have you performed in other countries apart from South Africa? If yes, where?
Yes I have, London, New Zealand, Australia and America.
One of your most memorable times onstage?
Nelson Mandela’s garden and winning a Sama for the best selling album in SA overall genres.
Which of your songs are your favourite and why?
“Bloutrein” a song I wrote on my album “Roeper” is certainly one of my favourite songs. It’s a little bit of social commentary on the poverty in South Africa through the eyes of a homeless person seeking a bit of salvation.
Who are your main musical influences?
Johnny Clegg, Tracy Chapman, Dire straits, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Valiant Swart, Koos Du Plessis
Did you write all off your songs? What are the main themes or topics of most of your songs?
No I didn’t, I wrote and co wrote most of the songs but I also do a few cover songs. The main topics is love and relationships.
Who was your inspiration for your song “Soos Bloed”?
An ex girlfriend of mine that worked as a doctor with a blood transfusion. I sent her a sms with the first words of the song. “Soos bloed so is jy vir my..”
What has your biggest challenge been as a singer?
Writing better songs with greater productions with each album I release, perfecting my performance with each show I do, giving my supporters a reasons to buy my albums and come back to see my shows.
What do you like to do in your spare time? (If you have spare time)
haha, I don’t have a lot of spare time, but I love spending the time I have with my parents on their farm, having a “lekker” braai, and walking my dogs.
What advice do you have for aspiring singers?
Don’t laugh at humble beginnings. Hard work pays off.
Do you like to meet your fans and sign autographs?
Yes I certainly do, my supporters are the reason for my success and that is the least I can do to say thank you to them.
Are you afraid of any bugs or insects?
I am afraid of spiders
What is your favourite colour?
Blue & Black
