Bon-Af-Berry Farm, Parys
The Bon-Af Berry Farm on the Free State side of the Vaal River, near the town of Parys, offers Berry Picking in season – from November to April. You can pick ‘em and eat ‘em, or take them home for the family to eat, make healthy smoothies or make jam! There are 65 different varieties of berry to choose from! Wow! Berry Madness! Choose from a variety of Elderberries, Gooseberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Blackcurrants and Black Nightshade.
Not only that, but picking berries right off they bush when they are at their optimum ripeness offers a nutritional smorgasbord second to none.
If you don’t fancy hands stained blue and purple, or you are in the Vaal at the wrong time of year, you can opt for a farm tour, enjoy the Bon-Af-Berry Tea Garden, and buy frozen berries all year round – berries frozen right after picking, and so as healthy and wholesome as the fresh berries.
Only 95km from Johannesburg, Bon-Af-Berry offers the perfect day out for the whole family, or a great place to stop and gorge on nature’s delights on your way west from Gauteng on the N1.
Getting there: Take the N1 west from JHB to the Sasolburg / Parys turn-off. Continue to Parys, turning right at the Barrage Intersection. The farm is a further 400m.
