Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Trail
A visit to the Dolphin Coast would not be complete without a relaxing “back-to-nature” walk on the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Trail.
This hour and a bit walk (which is suitable for children) is set in a beautiful forest, buttressed by dunes, and includes crossing a long wooden bridge over the Ohlange River, followed by a leisurely stroll back to the Breakers Resort.
The walk is guided by extremely knowledgeable & friendly guides. Learn a little about the culture of our people and the value of our indigenous vegetation. On the walk you may encounter vervet monkeys & small buck. There is an abundance of birds and butterflies. One of the highlights is to hug the 500 year old Celtis Africana (White stinkwood – “UmVumvu”).
The Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Trail can be found at the end of the O’Connor Promenade in Umhlanga. Breakers Resort is next door to the Reserve at the end of Lagoon Drive (Northern end).
Bookings must be made a day in advance by calling the Breakers Resort front desk on
031 561 2271.
Walks take place at 9am & 11am. Price per person is R30 (R15 for children under 12).
The Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve is controlled and maintained by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
