Wanderers Golf Course, Illovo, Johannesburg
Wanderers Golf Course is centrally situated in Illovo, an upmarket suburb of Sandton, Johannesburg. The course is placed right next door to the Wanderers test cricket ground and golfers are sometimes treated to the roars of the Protea Cricket fans.
This scenic 18-hole parkland course is 6 914 metres with a par of 72. Opened in 1939 it has been improved on over the years and in 1999 the greens had a total revamp. The bunkers also underwent drastic re-shaping incorporating the latest golf course technology which resulted in an excellent golfing challenge. Currently in the top 40 South African courses, the course has hosted many local tournaments.
The clubhouse underwent an upgrade in 2004 and Compleat Golfer magazine rated Wanderers’ “19th hole”, which enjoys a magnificent view of the course, as one of the best in the country.
Club is closed on Mondays. Visitors welcome everyday except Saturdays and Sunday mornings. Visit the Wanderers Website.
