Twee Jonge Gezellen Wine Farm, Tulbagh, Western Cape
Twee Jonge Gezellen Wine Farm is situated in the north west corner of the Tulbagh Valley about 125Km from Cape Town. The vineyards extend up the eastern slopes of the Saron Peak in the Obiqua Mountains. The “rain shadow” effect, well-drained soils and the cold winters have created a micro-climate unique to this area, creating ideal conditions for the growing of deeply flavoured, high quality grapes.
Also known as the House of Krone, the farm has been in the Krone family since 1710. In 1979 the winery was South Africa Champion Estate Winemaker of the year but it wasn’t until 1989 that the Krone Borrealis Brut methode cap classique was produced to much acclaim and went on to win the Diner’s Club Winemaker of the Year Award in 1995. Although the winery has been run by the same family for generations, it is still regarded as groundbreaking and innovative in its approach. In the 1980’s the present winemaker introduced night harvesting – a first in the Cape.
