The Goodman Gallery, Johannesburg
The Goodman Gallery is one of the most well-known contemporary galleries in South Africa, focusing on artists from South Africa, the entire African Continent and anything with an African nuance.
It was founded by Linda Goodman (now Givon) in 1966, who supported and encouraged local artists to exhibit, despite the strictures of apartheid. It was involved in the pivotal Art Against Apartheid exhibition in 1985 and held shows that were unmistakeably against the apartheid regime.
The gallery showcases well-known established artists as well as up-and-coming young talent. Not only does the gallery take South African artists internationally, it also brings various international artists to South African soil, to exhibit alongside our local talent.
The gallery was sold in 2008 to Liza Essers who continues to maintain international connections and retain an international flavour.
The gallery has major spaces in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
