Technical Mountain Biking in Bloemfontein
There are two natural areas in Bloemfontein that offer short technical mtb trails:
Happy Valley
This undeveloped area in Bloemfontein lies between the suburbs of Basewater and Westdene, and offers a 5km skill challenging technical single track circuit trail around a rock outcrop. Happy Valley is often the venue for cross country lap races.
The Seven Dams Conservancy is a 87ha open area in Bloemfontein’s Northern Suburbs. The conservancy offers an interesting and challenging trail that includes an optional ride over a narrow concrete dam wall and several singletracks. The surroundings are lovely, and there is also a nearby motorcross track for further mtb fun.
There is no entrance fee to either area. The seven dams conservancy protects 4 natural habitats, including the unique Karroid Shrubland, has several small dams and is a great place to for a picnic or to do some birding.
As with any public city area, it would be advisable to cycle with a friend or join a group for security sakes.
