Strandloper Hiking Trail, Kei Mouth, Eastern Cape

The Strandloper Hiking Trail, Kei Mouth, Eastern CapeThis 60km, 4-day hiking trail follows in the footsteps of the ancient Khoikhoi and San people who exploited marine resources along this magnificent stretch of coastline. The trail takes hikers along rocky shores, through grassland and patches of coastal bush and along sandy beaches – all types of terrain for which the Wild Coast is particularly revered.

Overnight accommodation on this trail is at a series of magnificent beach cabins and huts. For those types who wish to experience the splendour of the Wild Coast along this trail, but would enjoy the prospect of hotel accomodation and not carrying a backpack, they can enjoy this experience along the Strandloper Sundowner Trail.

The trails are run by the Strandloper EcoTourism Board. Visit their site for trail info.

Getting there: The trail starts at the Strandloper Ecotourism Centre at Cape Morgan Nature Reserve. From East London, take N2 going towards Umtata. Turn off onto the R349 and follow into Kei Mouth. From here, follow the signs to Cape Morgan Nature Reserve and then to the Strandloper Ecotourism Centre.
