Paradise Horse Riding Trails in Franschhoek, Cape Winelands
One of the most interesting ways to experience the beautiful Franschhoek landscape, coupled with wine tasting, is to jump onto the back of one of Pieter Hugo’s pure bred Arabian horses from Paradise Stables. Whether you are an experienced rider or a novice, this half day trip is relaxed and really enjoyable.
The horses just follow one another as you ride up the scenic mountain trails, through forests, and past the vineyards. Your guide, Pieter, the local horse whisperer and SA National Team Endurance Rider (Springbok), keeps the experience to a gentle walk for novices and allows the experienced riders to gallop and trot in the appropriate areas. The total riding time is around 2 hours and 30 minutes, with a 30-45 minute stop at the Rickety Bridge and Mont Rochelle wine estates. Wine Tasting Rides: Mon – Sat: 8:45 – 13:15 or 13:15 – 17:45: Closed on Sundays.
Another package is an hourly scenic out-ride, without the wineries. Experienced children over the age of 12 are welcome. Pack a picnic and enjoy the valley life. Hourly rides: 7:30-8:45 or 17:45-19:00.
Hard hats are supplied; you need to wear long trousers and some flat shoes. Maximum rider weight 100kg (16 stone)
