Klein River Cheese Farm, Stanford, Overberg
Spend some wonderful relaxing hours at the Klein River Cheese farm, only 7km outside Stanford. Set along the Klein River, this tranquil environment is a good backdrop to finding out about these South African award-winning cheeses.
Taste a variety of award-winning cheeses from the tasting table, while watching the cheese being made. The trained shop assistants can tell you more about the cheese making process and assist with cheese selection for cheeseboards, recipes and the best ways to enjoy the products. See all the gourmet products specially designed to accompany cheese, the Danish-style Feta cheese and two varieties of cream cheese exclusive to the shop, and the Gift Box which contains a selection of Klein River Cheeses and makes the ideal gift.
If you have the kids with you, they can enjoy the large playground with trampolines, jungle gym, merry-go-round, tree houses, swings, a slide, sandpit, balance beams, and see-saw.
They can also feed the many different animals that live on the farm, from Kabous the miniature Falabella pony to Shrek the goat and Horace the pig!
And then try our picnics to fill the empty tummies. At the Picnic Shed visitors can purchase a delicious picnic lunch and enjoy it on the banks of the tranquil Klein River; under the trees on the extensive lawns, or on the veranda of the beautifully renovated Picnic Shed. Special mini picnics are prepared for children and served in individual baskets so that they too get to enjoy the picnic experience. The Picnic Basket is filled with freshly baked wares such as warm bread and mini quiches; seasonal salads, fruit/preserves; a Klein River cheese platter, cold meats and more. Besides the Children’s picnic, there is also a Tiny Tot picnic which is ideal for the younger children or those who are not as hungry.
To compliment your lunch, we have a selection of local wines as well as cold drinks, fruit juices, and homemade ginger beer. Tea, coffee, baked cheesecake, decadent chocolate cake, and Gruyere cheese scones are served too. We also cater for picnic parties & special occasions.

Directions: From Cape Town/Hermanus – Take the R43 to Hermanus. Drive through Hermanus and alongside the lagoon. When you reach Stanford, turn left onto the R326. After 7km turn left onto a short gravel road. The gravel turn off is well signposted with blue & yellow banners advertising “cheese shop”; “play-park”; “picnic lunches” and “farm animals”. Follow the gravel road till the farm comes into view. Take the second road left (through the main gated entrance) to the Cheese Shop & Office.
