Karoo Gariep Conservancy, Northern Cape
The 12000ha Karoo Gariep Conservancy in the Northern Cape offers diverse nature and outdoors experiences and activities along with warm Karoo hospitality and cuisine!
Near Hanover in the Upper Karoo, the Karoo Gariep Conservancy is also the only place in the Northern Cape where you can see the Karoo Hippo – once hunted to extinction in this area, and re-introduced here in 2005 by the Karoo Hippo Project – based at New Holme Karoo Guest Farm on the Conservancy.
There are three guest farms on the Conservancy as well as family activities such as horse-riding, stargazing and donkey-cart rides. Other activities include birding (285 species identified), hiking and mountain-biking.
The ‘Seekoei’ (Hippo) restaurant offers farm-fresh Karoo fare from the working guest farms.
