Hlanganani Arts and Crafts, Phalaborwa Gate
The Hlanganani Arts and Crafts shop is situated just inside the Kruger Park Phalaborwa Gate 2km from Phalaborwa.
Hlanganani Arts and Crafts is the outlet for a community upliftment project that supports unemployed, disabled and aged people of the area – those who have no other source of income besides what is generated by the sale of their traditional hand-made African arts and crafts.
Although the arts and crafts are traditional, the project is governed by a mission statement based on equality:
“We are a united group of people where multi-raced persons work well together. We draw inspiration and gain encouragement from one another thereby creating our rainbow nation. No racism exists in our projects as a constitution and rules, to which everyone adheres, governs us.”
The project is also run by an elected committee who apply a system of quality control – ensuring quality in the unique and eclectic curios and souvenirs produced for tourists to the Kruger Park.
