Hiking at Windy Brow Nature Reserve, Cullinan, Gauteng
The Windy Brow Game Farm and Nature Reserve just outside of Cullinan offers graded and diverse hiking trails through bush, montane and highveld grassland terrains with high biodiversity.
There are several professionally laid out half-day hiking trails designed by Prof. Leon Hugo and Mr Paul Bewsher of the Centre for Eco Tourism, University of Pretoria, catering for game viewing, bird watching, nature appreciation, tent camping, hiking safaris, and environmental education. All trails are rated easy to average and vary in distance from 3 to 5km.
The trails are well marked, but you can also design your own route. Day hikers are accommodated, but one or two day hiking groups are also welcomed – in reserve accommodation or own tents. You need to bring your linen, crockery and supplies. Charcoal for braais can be purchased at Windy Brow. Booking is essential.
Getting there: Take the R513 west from Cullinan. Travelling distance is 5 km.
