Fishing at Kosi Bay, Elephant Coast, Kwazulu-Natal

Fishing at the Kosi Bay mouthRock and surf angling in the Kosi Bay area is restricted to two spots: Kosi mouth and Banga Nek. The mouth is a great area for catching large sharks, kingfish and spotted grunter. The best spot is the flat rock on the southern side of the mouth, but you need a boat to cross over to this point. This rock can only be fished at low tide. It is a good spot for giant kingfish, and exotic species such as mata-hari and speckled snapper.

Tips for fishermen:

Large sharks will often take a kingfish while it is being fought. Kingfish can be caught on surface plugs, spinners, live bait and filleted baits.

Getting there: from Durban, take the N2 going north up the coast. Turn onto the R22 going through the isiMangaliso Wetland Park and continue north. Take the D1846 road going to Kosi Bay.
