Dullstroom Nature Reserve

Dullstroom Nature Reserve, Dullstroom, MpumalangaThe small Dullstroom Nature Reserve and Dam is a popular flyfishing destination that adjoins the town of Dullstroom, and offers self-catering accommodation, camping and a caravan park for those who wish to stay overnight in this very attractive, peaceful and rural area of sub-alpine lakes, dams, hills and forests.

The reserve is situated close to the Crocodile River and the Steenkampsberg Valley and there are a number of short hikes through the reserve as well as excellent trout fishing in the dam that fronts pretty self-catering chalets.

The Dullstroom area is known for its wildflowers, birding (all three species of endangered Southern African Crane can be seen here. These are the Blue Crane, SA’s National Bird, the Cowned Crane and the critically endangered Wattled Crane), and great trout fly-fishing.

Getting there: Take the N12 east from Johannesburg and continue on this road as it merges on to the N4. At Belfast. Take a right on to the R540 at Belfast. As you drive into Dullstroom take the first right, then right again after the Dullstroom Inn.
