Buitenverwachting Wine Estate, Constantia, Cape Town
Buitenverwachting Wine Estate originally formed part of the Groot Constantia land granted to Simon van der Stel in the late seventeen hundreds. It is perfectly situated on the beautiful slopes of the Constantiaberg a mere 12Km from False Bay.
Although the farm has changed hands many times over the centuries it has always flourished thanks to Ryk Arnoldus Cloete, brother of the famous Hendrik Cloete of Constantia, who planted 90 000 vines in 1825.
Top quality wines are produced from the deep decomposing granite soils and the fresh sea breezes. The wines are highly rated, particularly the Buitenverwachting Sauvignon Blanc 2010 which was awarded a gold medal in 2011 at the Trophy Wine Show.
The estate is an ideal venue for weddings and functions and the Buitenverwachting Restaurant is recognised as one of the finest in Cape Town. A more relaxed meal can be had at The Courtyard and a picnic in the beautiful gardens under the ancient oaks can be booked in the summer months.
