Botlierskop Game Reserve, Mossel Bay, Garden Route
Botlierskop is Africa in the Garden Route. Malaria free, this private nature reserve has a lot on offer which can be enjoyed by residents and day visitors. Botlierskop is situated just off the N2 as you approach Little Brak River in the heart of the Garden Route.
Game Drives: Take a 3 hour guided game drive and experience close encounters with over 26 species including Rhinoceros, Lions (in a 100 ha enclosure), Buffalo, Giraffe, rare Black Impala, Mountain Zebra, Eland and Elephants (trained elephants). More than 200 bird species for the avid bird watcher.
Bush Walks: The Nature Walk consists of a 2 hour guided walk through diverse habitats like riverine forest, marsh areas, fynbos and plains. During the walk the guide will point out, identify and explain the medicinal use of certain plants. There is also a a good chance that the guests will spot Knysna Touraco, Knysna Woodpecker, Narina Trogon and all 5 Kingfisher species among the 200 local residents. The guide will point out and identify the tracks of animals ranging from the very exclusive Cape clawless Otter to the Cape Buffalo. Guests might also be fortunate enough to see various game on foot, ranging from the small bashful Bushbuck, the large Eland to white Rhinoceros.
Elephant Back Rides: Experience the real African thrill on elephant back – a unique first for the Garden Route. Touch and feed Sam, Tsotsi and little Tsima and get first hand experience of the African Elephant. Relax in a tranquil setting and enjoy a picnic with these extraordinary animals roaming close by.
Horseback Safari: Saddle up for a horseback safari and escape to the majestic mountain valleys and beautiful fynbos for a 1, 2 or 3 hour ride and experience nature like never before.
The River: For those who would prefer to chill out, there is an informative river cruise where guests can savour the moment. Various bird species could be seen such as Blue Crane, Fish Eagle, Egyption Geese and a wide variey of duck species and if you are really lucky you will see the Cape Clawless Otter feeding in the river OR try your hand at fishing with an experienced guide or ask your guide to arrange a fishing rod and tackle. Species you are likely to catch are Carp, Large mouth Bas, Blue Kurper and Fresh water eels. Strictly Catch and release.
