The Franshoek Polo School near Ficksburg offers Polo lessons to beginners and pre-season Polo clinics. The school is built on the Franshoek Farm (Franshoek Mountain Lodge) about 26km from Ficksburg.
The Ficksburg area has a long history of Polo and was once a centre for Polo in South Africa. Interest and funds waned in the early 90′ and Ficksburg’s Polo field was lost, but Franshoek ‘took the reigns’ to re-establish’ the sport through the creation of new fields and the establishment of the Polo School.
Learning to Play Polo here is not just about the challenge or even the horses, but as much about the beautful peaceful surroundings. The field is in ‘The Valley’ tucked up against the Witteberg Mountain range in the Eastern Free State. The area is very rural, wild and beautiful, and there are many other outdoors activities that can be enjoyed, from mtb to hiking to bass fishing. To quote the Polo School directly:

Getting there: Take the R26 north-east out of Ficksburg, turning left after 8km. Follow the signs from there.
