Dredging to begin at the Old Harbour
NOTICE OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT PROCESS: MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR MAINTENANCE DREDGING AT GORDON’S BAY HARBOUR, WESTERN CAPE
(DEA REF NO: 14/12/16/3/1/1/93)
The National Department of Public Works (DPW) intends to undertake repairs and upgrades at Gordon’s Bay Harbour, including maintenance dredging within and immediately outside the harbour, and the depositing of dredged sand onto Bikini Beach for the purposes of beach replenishment.
As the works will involve dredging and the depositing of dredged material in the littoral active zone/within 100m inland of the high-water mark of the sea for maintenance purposes, DPW must undertake these works in terms of a Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs. SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) has been appointed to compile the MMP and undertake the associated stakeholder engagement process.
The MMP has been compiled and is now available for public review for a period of 30 days, from 1 September until 2 October 2017. Attached please find a the stakeholder letter, which provides more details on the proposed maintenance dredging at Gordon’s Bay Harbour.
Hard copies of the full MMP are available for viewing at the following venues:
• Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club;
• Gordon’s Bay Public Library; and
• SRK’s office in Rondebosch.
An electronic version of the report can also be accessed on SRK’s website: http://www.srk.co.za/en/za-gordons-bay-harbour/
Stakeholders are invited to submit written comments and/or register on the project database.
