A teenager handed himself to authorities on Monday in connection with the murder of a man, reportedly over the result of a football match.
“The 17-year-old man will appear in the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court on Monday afternoon,” Captain Thulani Zwane said.
Malibongwe Dlamini, 22, was stabbed in the back and below the neck in the early hours of Sunday morning in eMfule Mission, Melmoth.
“It is alleged the man and the teenager had an argument that led them to fight,” Zwane said.
Police were still investigating what caused the fight.
According to Monday’s Isolezwe newspaper, the argument was sparked by the results of Saturday night soccer match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The game was won by Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties.
Dlamini was an Orlando Pirates supporter.
