Mahlatze Vokal release much awaited single Prayer for Africa ahead of his African tour

He is a man of many talents, but music remains his passion and first love.
Born in Limpopo many moons ago, Afro Soul singer and song writer, MahlatzeVokal came to the city of gold in 2001 to study Civil Engineering, a path that led him to work in the construction industry in the city and in the Limpopo province. Determined to spread his wings and explore his many talents, Mahlatze tried his luck in acting and scooped a lead role in a musical play. He is not only hot, sexy but talented male vocalist to lookout for. The name MahlatzeVokal comes from his real name Mahlatse, which means blessings.
He comes from a musical family, where music is treasured.
“My musical experience at home was great because my father used to love music so much that I’d sing every song he played and my brother was in love with hip hop music and I could sing all the songs he composed.
“I remember when my father heard me singing for the first time, he told my mother that I was so good and that I sang as if I was in love. I was 15 at the time.”
In 2002, Mahlatze swapped the hardhat and boots for music and in 2004; he took part in a talent search competition and made it to the top 20. Leaving his stable career in civil engineering was the hardest decision Mahlatze had to take, but, “… at the end of the day it paid off. I am happy were I am now”.
Mahlatze’s musical journey led him to perform in technikons and universities until he formed an all man R&B and Afro pop band called Muzo. They released an album, which was produced by legendary jazz musician SelaeloSelota. The band however did not have a long life span and it was dissolved two years after it was formed.
Curious to land his hand in something else after having had a stint in music, Mahlatze ventured into modelling. His father, who has a taste for finer things in life and his designer sister, influenced this career path.
As if that was not enough for the multi-talented Mahlatze, he formed an events management company, mainly focusing on co-ordinating fashion shows.
When he realised his real passion lied in music, in 2009, Mahlatze resurrected his band, and this time, they called themselvesMuzo Brothers. They worked on repackaging their debut album. The group moved to their home ground, Limpopo, where they became a household name. As a sought-after vocalist, Mahlatze’s impeccable voice was used in a jingle for Thobela FM radio station in Limpopo.
He moved back to Johannesburg in 2014 to pursue a solo career.
He believes music is his “purpose” and what he was created to do.
He has shared the stage with musical greats such as Zonke, Lira, Donald, Selaelo Selota, Mafikizolo, Kelly Khumalo, Kb, Joe Thomas and Bra Hugh Masekela.
He is a multi-award winner and known for his stylish and fresh bespoke suits. According to MahlatzeVokal, dressing up everyday and being a nobleman is his playground.
He is currently working on his much-awaited debut album and a single titled Prayer for Africa, which with his 2016 African tour kicking off in May. Mahlatze is also a Knitted companion of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela, founder Carolyn Steyn applaud MahatzeVokal for non stop talent and support at the #67Blankets world campaign.
