Langebaan

The Langebaan Lagoon is undoubtedly a naturally idyllic spot, and the town of Langebaan is the place from which to fully appreciate this amazing environment. From being founded as a whaling station in 1922, the town is now a popular weekend and annual holiday venue.

The azure blue lagoon, 15km by 5km in size, forms part of the West Coast National Park and is a magnet for water sport lovers. Diving, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing all have a major following. There is a yacht club and many operators who offer lessons, equipment and supplies for these sports.

The Park also has plains animals that can be seen from your car along the roads. From June to November whales are often spotted along the coast and dolphins make the lagoon home year round.

In August and September, the wild flower spectacle is the cherry on the top. Postberg in the West Coast National Park is world famous for its flowers and enjoying a picnic at the Uitkyk picnic spot is a lifetime experience.

The climate is moderate – winter is never very cold and the long summer days are never unbearably hot. Langebaan has a modern Country Club and a golf course, and offers numerous accommodation and restaurant facilities. The town has a good infrastructure and is close to the shopping hub at Vredenburg.

Getting there: from Cape Town, take the R27 West Coast road. Turn left at the West Coast One Stop where you will a see a sign to Langebaan. Follow this road into the town.
