Security in Parow North given a boost
The neighborhood watch in Parow North received personalized reflective vests and pepper spray canisters from a local security company last week, a donation which they say will give local security efforts a very welcome boost.
The Parow North Neighborhood Watch (PN NHW) monitors an area that stretches from the N1 highway down McIntyre Road to Frans Conradie, with the Parow Golf club being the greenbelt border.
“We always need more people to join the Watch to help us keep our streets safe from crime,” said PN NHW Chairperson Johan Hulme.
“Neighborhood watches are important partners for law enforcement agencies and private security companies. We provide them with the valuable information they need to make sure limited resources are deployed in the most effective and efficient manner.”
The PN NHW, said Hulme, had 196 signed up members and 43 active patrollers.
“We have an Emergency WhatsApp group available to all residents, to call for help in case of an emergency. The NHW will have their AGM on Thursday 2 June at the Parow North Primary school, starting at 19h00.”
ADT Security’s community district manager, Gavin Robinson, handed over the donation to the PN NHW.
“Our company has invested a lot of resources in the safety of people living in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. For example, the Durbanville Camera Initiative connects hundreds of community watch members to a network of police stations, license plate recognition cameras and private security agencies. But modern technology will make no long term difference if local residents don’t also become active participants in their own safety,” said Robinson.
Hulme urged residents of Parow North to sign up to the PN NHW.
