The magnificent Cederberg Region, has Citrusdal as its southern gateway and extends to Clanwilliam in the north. The mighty Olifants River feeds water to the impressive citrus farms around Citrusdal and continues to the West Coast through Klawer, Vredendal and Lutzville, all part of the excellent Olifants River Wine route.
The Cederberg Wilderness Area, managed by CapeNature, is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and one of the most pristine, undisturbed places in South Africa. Famous for the amazing rock formations, it is home to over 130 rock art sites and has been declared a National Heritage Site. Not surprisingly, this is one of South Africa’s best rock climbing areas, especially around the Pakhuis Pass near Clanwilliam. The area also boasts amazing hiking, cycling, fly fishing, bird watching, 4×4 trails for motor bikes and vehicles and most of all, it is far from the madding crowds.
Clanwilliam is the heart of the Rooibos Tea Industry and Wuppertal, a village lost in time, still follows its early 19th century Rhenish Mission lifestyle.
