Bushbuckridge

The small town of Bushbuckridge, or Bosbokrand is it is known in Afrikaans, is sometimes described as being in the Limpopo Lowveld.

It is situated in the Valley of the Olifants – on the old Ivory Route – which is part of Limpopo Province. However, some time ago the citizens pushed to be a part of Mpumalanga as the administrative Capital Nelspruit is much closer than the Administrative Capital of Limpopo, Polokwane.

Bushbuckridge is predominantly an agricultural town, with tobacco, cotton and other farms and estates in the surrounding area, along with some beautiful natural scenery in the Olifants River Gorge and Mpumalanga’s biggest safari attraction right on its doorstep in the east. The Kruger National Park is a hop and a skip away from this little rural town.

The Manyeleti Game Reserve in the immediate environs is a 20 000ha private reserve that has been incorporated into the Greater Kruger National Park.

Getting there: Take the N12 east from Johannesburg, merging onto the N4. After 112km on the N4, turn off on to the R36 east. After 49.5km exit on to Voortrekker St, then right on to De Clercq St. – all still the R36. Continue on the R36 for a further 29km, then turn right on to the R533 for Bushbuckridge. Total travelling time is 5 and a half hours.
