Sezela

Sezela, is a small town with a big sugar mill, located along the Umdoni Coast, KwaZulu Natal.  In 1828, King Shaka and his bravest impi warriors hunted a man-eating crocodile here called iSezela meaning the “the one who smells out”, for it was said that it hunted like a wild dog.

Sezela was first known as Malangeni River after the Malangeni people who lived on the river’s banks. The name was later changed to Sezela after the man-eating crocodile.

Sezela is all about the big sugar mill, as it was the first one built in South Africa.

Take a walk along the Ndesingane sandy beach at low tide and explore the vibrant sea life in the rock pools.  Hiking in the Mpiti bush trail reveals natures wonders with dense forest bush, be sure to take your binoculars as this area has a lively bird life.
