Kelso

Kelso is small village, nestled along the Umdoni Coast, KwaZulu Natal. Originally it was once an important part of the distribution of sugar by boat down the Umzinto River and onto larger ships at sea.  Today this peaceful resort has become an oasis for many who wish for total relaxation.

Visitors can spend hours along the stretch of golden beach, interspersed with rocky outcrops, making it ideal for, exploring and discovering the prolific sea and shell life. Days can be spend simply, by soaking up the sun or snorkelling in the warm waters, while discovering the interesting and colourful tropical fish, and magnificent coral reefs.

Fishing off the rocks or the surf is another popular activity in Kelso, or enjoy a relaxing beach horse ride while breathing in the fresh sea air.

Surfers can visit the legendary Mfazazana Point, which a little further south of Kelso.  Access to Mfazazana Point is from the old South Coast road. Several competitions take place annually, including hosting part of the South Coast Surf Carnival.

Just a few kilometres to the north of Kelso and just off the road to Ixopo lies the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve. This reserve has several species of buck and antelope and during spring the reserve is a vibrant blaze of wildflowers.
