Wartburg

The town of Wartburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands was established by German settlers in the 1850’s.

Named after the castle Eisenach in Germany where Dr Martin Luther first translated the bible into English, the town is still home to fourth generation Germans and hearing the language spoken around town, is not uncommon. Today the local industry is mainly mealies (maize), sugar cane, timber and kiwi fruit although there is an increasing arts and crafts community.

Wartburg is situated 27km North-East of Pietermaritzburg. Although this little scenic village does not attract adrenalin chasers, it provides a few relaxing activities such as a 9 hole golf course and some exquisite scenic walks.
