Hilton, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, is a tranquil town overflowing with charm and vibrancy. It is only about 10km from the city of Pietermaritzburg and is the first town on the famous Midlands Meander The town boasts two top-notch academic gems in Hilton College and St Anne’s. Like a great deal of the architecture in the Natal Midlands, Hilton has a distinctly “country village” feel to it. Visitors can take in their first glimpse of the Drakensburg Mountains and marvel in all the botanical splendour that the town holds.
With an array of conservancy projects and the Doreen Clark Nature reserve, Hilton prides itself on its ongoing efforts to protect and conserve the natural habitat – a Midlands destination that promises rest and relaxation. Hilton’s galleries, restaurants, accommodation establishments and arts and crafts form an important part of route 1 of the Midlands Meander.
The town is home to many artists and craftsman and the annual Witness Hilton Arts Festival in September, showcases local and national artists on a world class scale.
