Shelly Beach

Shelly Beach is situated about 10 km south of Port Shepstone, the largest town on the Hibiscus Coast, part of the south Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It is a tranquil town set in the most beautiful surroundings and fast becoming one of the fastest developing towns on the South Coast. As its name suggests it is well known for the beautiful shells that get washed up onto its beaches – a shell collector’s paradise. Take a stroll on the pristine beach and you are bound to find the finest pink lady shells hidden amongst the more common shells.

The warm waters are perfect for all water sports and the diving is superb at the nearby Potato Reef, Deep Salmon, Bo Boyi, Arena and Adda Reefs. There are also numerous tidal pools and lagoons where snorkelling will reveal the amazing corals and sub-tropical fish. This area is also a fisherman’s paradise from the rocks and in the surf. It is also the largest ski-boat base on the entire coast from East London to Durban – the perfect place to launch for your deep-sea fishing.

To add some variety, the town boasts an excellent shopping mall with great restaurants and a cinema complex. The locals are known for their friendliness and hospitality, the beaches are pristine and for the energetic the activities are unlimited and the facilities are superb. It is also right in the middle of the Hibiscus Coast with some of the best golf courses in the province, many nature reserves, hikes and mountain biking trails within an easy drive.
