Illovo Beach

Illovo Beach is a small holiday resort town on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal within the municipal area of the town of Kingsburgh. It is about 30 km south of the city of Durban and is located on the southern side of the mouth of the Lovu River from where it gets its name. On the northern side of the river lies the Winklespruit beach. In fact, Illovo Beach is part of a complex of beach-side residential and resort areas stretching from Isipingo just outside Durban to Karridene at the southern extreme of eThekwini.

The beaches are all typical pristine South Coast beaches all protected from sharks and manned by lifesavers with golden sands and rocky outcrops stretching as far as the eye can see. Some of the best surfing spots can be found here and literally any watersport you can think of can be experienced from diving on the Aliwal Shoal to kite surfing, body boarding, surf skiing, canoeing and of-course swimming in the warm Indian Ocean. The nearby Warner Beach, or Baggies Beach as it is sometimes called, is world famous for its excellent breaks.

Like most places on the South Coast you are never far away from virtually any activity you can think of from hiking in nature reserves, mountain biking, fishing and bird watching. In addition you are close to the hustle and bustle of Durban and the busy holiday town of Amanzimtoti. There is also a wheel chair friendly boardwalk down to the beach.
