Blythedale

Blythedale Beach is a resort on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal near Stanger and KwaDakuza. This is a beautiful unspoilt area that adjoins a conservancy which includes the mouth of the Umvoti River mouth. Except for the Blythedale Coastal Resort in the development process, the area has remained largely undeveloped. If being close to nature is your thing, then this is the place for you.

With the prolific bird life at the river mouth and the hundreds of hectares of forest canopy, Blythedale is just waiting to be explored. The 3 km long pristine beach is protected by shark nets and is a very popular surfing spot. Slightly north of the main beach there is an outcrop of rocks called Channel Rocks and this is where fishermen are likely to catch shad, blacktail and small kob. The long stretch of beach to the mouth of the Umvoti River is known as Vorster’s Dip. The water is fairly deep and in summer catches include sand sharks, skates, rays and Natal stumpnose.

Apart from the 3 km beach, Blythedale Resort will comprise 1000 ha of indigenous forest, an equestrian section with 30 freehold stands and facilities for horses, a golf course with a driving range and practice green. The development is due for completion in 2015. The Princes Grant Golf Estate, recently voted the best golf estate development in South Africa, is 10 km further north along the N2

In less than a few hours to the north you can be in the Big 5 Hluhluwe-Umfolosi Game Reserve and about 50 km to the south, Umhlanga with the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, one of the biggest malls and entertainment centres in South Africa.
