Wesselsbron

Wesselsbron is a small farming town in the Goldfields Region of the Free State that serves a vast agricultural area from the Vet River to the Vaal River on the border with the North West Province near Bloemhof.

Although situated in the middle of South Africa’s Maize Triangle, the Wesselsbron district also produces groundnuts, wheat and sunflowers. Liquid fertilizer is also produced here in large quantities for use around the country.

Wesselsbron is best known as the location of the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest grain silos, and if agriculture is your thing, you can take a tour of the silos and the mills.

The nearest attraction is an hour’s drive from Wesselsbron. The Bloemhof Dam and the Sandveld Nature Reserve together offer some of the best freshwater fishing and birding in South Africa, and a little further north the Wolwespruit Nature Reserve offers game viewing and birding.
