Jansenville

Jansenville is a typical Karoo town, with vast open spaces, clear night skies and a friendly farming community. This is the typical Noorsveld with its distinctive spiky plants, an environment very friendly to Angora goats, Boer goats and sheep which thrive in what is now the centre of the mohair route. Both the South-African Mohair Grower’s Association and the Angora Goat Stud Breeders’ Society of South Africa are located in Jansenville.

Jansenville is part of the Eastern Cape’s nature and conservation region, an area of roughly 438 000 hectares of managed nature reserves that are committed to protecting bio-diversity, conservation and forming beneficial relationship with local communities.

 It is not surprising that Jansenville has numerous game farms and hunting concessions, attracting local and foreign clientele, as well as nearby nature reserves including the Addo Elephant National Park (47kms) and the Camdeboo National Park (85kms).

You can expect guest farms and activities, guest houses, Karoo cuisine, historic buildings, Anglo Boer War forts, fossils and local sports like cricket, golf, rugby, tennis and bowls to which visitors are always welcome.

The restored Sid Fourie House, an art deco building, serves as a museum and offers an interesting diversion to visitors.
