Cathcart, situated in a scenic area of the Amatola Region in the Eastern Cape, was originally a military stronghold established in the late 1800’s.
The town still features well-maintained examples of nineteenth century architecture. Local shops retain intricate trelliswork, iron pillars and arched windows and Kenya Corner, the original settlement of corrugated station houses, is now a national monument.
