For an easier ride, try the Middelplaas farm roads routes. Ride along gravel roads lined with vineyards or the ever inquisitive ostriches.
See old farm homesteads, the beautiful mountains and enjoy the peace and quiet of being outdoors in a rural setting.

Meiringspoort – one of South Africa’s most spectacular passes
Take in the stunning scenery of the rugged mountains and streams. An exhilarating ride. Take the N12 towards Oudtshoorn. When you get to Meiringspoort, park at the first or second picnic spot. The river flows next to the road. It is slow going as it is ever so slightly uphill all the way and especially when the wind is in your face.
The bench mark. Ben, local MTB man, says: “It took me 43 minutes to do 10km. Then I turned back. I was back at the picnic spot in 17 minutes! Great fun!”
You can also have some-one drop you off at the Beaufort West side of Meiringspoort and do the whole downhill ride.
Meijer’s Rust Mountain Trail

Although the road is not easy in some places, the views and environment are amazing. It is a mere 14km from the gate of Meijer’s Rust. But boy – by the time you get to the proteas, you will have an eagle’s view of the plains below.
Going is also tough with a lot of ditches to keep things interesting. Once again – the ride back is precarious, but with loads of adrenalin!
