Buttler blasted 48 off 28 balls with four fours and three sixes, while Ali’s attractive 21-run cameo came off 15 balls with three boundaries. They reached 263 for five in 46.2 overs.
The wicketkeeper-batsman also proved to be South Africa’s Nemesis in the first game with his excellent 105 which set up a 39-run win in Bloemfontein.
England now enjoys a 2-0 lead in the five-game series.
England captain Eoin Morgan praised his players for adapting to conditions that were much-changed from those in Wednesday’s first match at Bloemfontein which they won in a high-scoring clash.
“They were completely different conditions,” said Morgan. “That is what has impressed me most. The challenge was adapting to conditions. Alex Hales was magnificent.”
Earlier South Africa won the toss, elected to bat and assembled 262 for seven. AB de Villiers set up a competitive total with 73 off 91 balls, while Faf du Plessis featured in a 49-run partnership with De Villiers by hitting a sparkling 46 off 48 balls.
