These 21 vehicles are in the running for South African Car of the Year 2018

A list of 21 vehicles have been identified by the South African Guild of Motoring as semi-finalists for the 2018 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition, in conjunction with Wesbank.
The Opel Astra was crowned the 2017 winner, with the Audi A4 placing second, and the Volkswagen Passat third.
The list follows a vote by the full and fellow membership of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) on new vehicle ranges introduced to the local car market within the COTY eligibility period.
The 2018 COTY Jury will put the finalists through structured testing procedures at the end of January 2018, before scoring each finalist against its direct class competitors on aspects that include:
- Affordability
- Cabin Styling, Layout, and Ergonomics
- Engine Performance and Technology
- Engineering Integrity and Build Quality
- Exterior Design
- Overall Excellence
- Ride Quality
- Steering and Handling
- New Technology
- Transmission Performance
- Value for Money
The Jury will conclude voting for the finalist vehicle ranges that will compete in the 2018 competition, which will be announced at the Bryanston Country Club on 19 September 2017.
The final winner will be announced at an evening function to be held in March 2018.
