Rustenburg schools get a facelift
Eight schools were presented with Cashbuild building material vouchers to the value of R12 000 each during the Cashbuild Rustenburg store opening ceremony on 12 June. Children from the schools entertained everyone present with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
Thanks to the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition, serious maintenance work will now be carried out at the schools.
Zinniaville Secondary School’s principal Mr Abdull said: “Our school is 40 years old and in desperate need of maintenance. We would like to use our Cashbuild voucher to paint the school and jungle gyms, repair the roof and conduct general maintenance.”
Laerskool Rustenburg Noord Principal Mr Van Der Walt said: “Our school has 1346 learners and falls under the Department of Education’s Nutritional Programme. Under normal circumstances, the school prepares meals for over 100 learners per day.
Since the strikes in Rustenburg have continued, the number has increased dramatically and the school has run out of seating in the lunch area. We would like to use our voucher from Cashbuild to increase the number of permanent tables and chairs available for learners to enjoy meals at the school.”
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork, which is displayed at the ceremony and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.
After the judging, three winners from each school received gold, silver and bronze certificates for the first, second and third place respectively.
Realeboga Nameng from Zinniaville Secondary School was named the overall winner and received the glass trophy Manager’s Award and a stationery pack.
The gold, silver and bronze award winners from each school benefitting from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations, were Realeboga Nameng, Abinaja Rajagopal and Kamogelo Ngwenya (Zinniaville Secondary School); Atlegang Rampete, Oratile Monamesti and Kgothatso Mogatusi (Laerskool Rustenburg Noord); Benathi Hamnca, Tshegofato Bando and Mohau Hlengwa (Tlhage Primary School); Amogelang Khunoane, Reitumetse Catsha and Bheka Mpofu (Kloof View Primary School); Vuyo Gawe, Nathi Sekwane and Phila Mcabafrom (Mfidikoe Primary School); Jessica Niehaus, Chanri Annandale and Zelmari Kruger (Laerskool Rustenburg); Palesa Mosasi, Botlhale Nkuna and Neo Segole (Tlhabane West Primary School); Mologadi Letsoalo, Tshepiso Tshubane and Thoriso Maduo (Lekwakwa Primary School).
In the thirteen years since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched, Cashbuild has helped more than 1700 schools in Southern Africa with over R20-million worth of building materials.
Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
