Olympia Park – Rustenburg’s first Stadium
When you ask most Rustenburgers where the Olympia Park stadium is, their answer will most probably refer you to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium that was upgraded for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in Rustenburg. Olympia Park Stadium though, is the first stadium built for local matches between the different sports held in Rustenburg, in the 1980′s and opened in 1990.
One of the biggest events took place at Olympia Park in 1995, the Rugby World Cup, which was won by South Africa that year. Three World Cup matches have been played in Rustenburg that year. Today it is still used for local soccer games as well as cricket matches. Athletes as well as the Roll for a Quad event compete here annually.
