Local Government Elections 2016
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Local government elections are taking place on Wednesday the 3rd of August 2016 with the voting hours from 07:00 am to 19:00 pm.
This is two hours shorter than the previous elections so please be aware of the time changes.
The day has been declared a public holiday.
In municipal elections you are voting for your city (ward and PR) councillors who will run the municipality for the next 5 years.
No selfies or photos are allowed to be taken inside the voting station.
You will receive two (2) ballots at voting stations in Johannesburg – one for the ward councillor and one for the proportional representation party list.
You can ONLY vote in a local government election where you have applied to be registered – to check your registration SMS your 13 digit ID number to 32810 (R1.00 per sms), go online to www.elections.org.za (voter registration details) or download the IEC app for voters.
You need to bring your bar coded ID book or card to be able to vote. Temporary ID certificates are available at Home Affairs departments.
It should not take longer than 15 minutes to vote according to the IEC but queues can be long at times.
