DIY – How to apply the Rust effect
Rust Paint will give the image of an object manufactured from iron that has been exposed to the atmosphere for ages and has become pitted and weathered due to oxidation, acid rain and harsh elements.
What you will need:
- AFRICOTE’S Rust Paint Kit
- Clean Cloth
- Clean Tap Water
- Paint Brush
Surface Preparation:
- Surfaces must be free of any latent, loose material, rust, grease or oil.
- Wire brush, sand or scrape where necessary.
- Use a degreasing agent if applicable. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 1
Take the object you want to apply the rust technique to and wipe it clean from any dust or dirt.
Step 2
Apply a layer of the “undercoat” to the object.
Ensure you cover all the areas; otherwise the topcoat will not grip on the object. Leave to dry.
Step 3
Once undercoat is dried the topcoat can now be applied. You will notice the topcoat is extremely textured. Apply the topcoat to the object with a paintbrush.
Step 4
While the topcoat is still wet apply oxidiser A & B to the topcoat, you can use a brush or syringe to do this.
Now leave the object to dry. As the product dries out the rust effect will appear.
